Thanks for reading and commenting Professional Cynic! (love the name!). I assume that’s a typo and you mean 3 MONTH chart (the 3 YEAR chart really shows Bitcoin's meteoric rise over that period showing a steady, albeit volatile, increase from $769.73 on Dec 10 2016 and today, at time of typing is $7339.48, an increase of 853.51% over the period), however the 3 MONTH chart does show a fall from 10296.18 to 7339.48 as you correctly say over that period, a drop of 28.7%.
Of course, we musn’t forget that Bitcoin is up 96.7% just this year alone, making it the best performing asset of the year, but I get your point that there can sometimes be a protracted downturn and it looks like disaster is coming! Rest assured this is part of the normal market cycle. So, if you’re one of the 28.39m people who hold Bitcoin (new record high achieved just last week), it’s often better to think of it on the longer term rather than the short term. Hope that helps!
All the best
